Quick answer
The Discover Seoul Pass can save money when the places already on your list cost more than the pass and fit into a route you would enjoy anyway. The advertised number of attractions tells you very little about whether it suits your trip.
Admission prices vary widely in Seoul. A theme park or aquarium may cost a fair amount, while a palace, market, museum, or neighborhood may cost very little or nothing. A slower palace-and-neighborhood trip often works better with separate tickets.
This guide uses the pass lineup and prices checked on September 16, 2026. Recheck the official pass page and the individual attraction pages before buying because products, groups, prices, and participating attractions can change.
Quick answer: buy the pass only when your existing plan clears the cost
Start with the attractions already in your itinerary. Ignore any stop added solely to make the pass look worthwhile.
- Choose Pick 3 Basic when three eligible non-theme-park attractions are genuine priorities and fit the current group rules.
- Choose Pick 3 Theme Park when Lotte World, Everland, or another eligible theme park is already a must-do and the other two eligible choices add enough value.
- Choose the 72-hour pass when several paid attractions fit naturally into three consecutive days without rushing across Seoul.
- Choose the 120-hour pass only when a five-day attraction-heavy plan comfortably exceeds its higher price.
- Skip the pass when the trip centers on palaces, markets, free museums, cafés, and neighborhoods, or when direct child, senior, online, or promotional prices are lower than the amount used in the pass calculation.
Current public prices are ₩49,000 for Pick 3 Basic, ₩70,000 for Pick 3 Theme Park, ₩90,000 for 72 hours, and ₩130,000 for 120 hours. The official page shows one public price for each pass, with no separate child or senior tier. Calculate every traveler separately.
Compare the four current pass types
| Pass | Current price | How it works | Best fit | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pick 3 Basic | ₩49,000 | Choose three attractions within five days from first use under the current A, B, and C group rules | Three specific paid attractions spread across a relaxed trip | Your three preferred places may not satisfy the group combination |
| Pick 3 Theme Park | ₩70,000 | Choose one Group T theme park, one Group A or B attraction, and one Group C attraction within five days from first use | A theme park is already fixed, with two useful add-ons | Child or discounted direct tickets can make the bundle less valuable |
| 72-hour | ₩90,000 | Use eligible attractions once each during 72 consecutive hours | A compact three-day paid-attraction route | Travel time and closure days can erase the paper saving |
| 120-hour | ₩130,000 | Use eligible attractions once each during 120 consecutive hours | Four or five attraction-heavy days | A longer clock does not help if most planned stops are free or inexpensive |
The Pick 3 group rules deserve a check immediately before purchase. The official guide currently divides attractions into Groups T, A, B, and C and limits the combinations. A retailer may show a differently packaged or newly revised option, but the official pass page should be the final check for the exact product you are buying.
Calculate value from the attractions you already want
Use the lowest direct price you can realistically book, not only the walk-up price printed beside the pass. Then calculate:
Usable pass value = direct prices you would genuinely pay + benefits you still need − pass price
Remove any attraction that fails one of these tests:
- You would visit it without the pass.
- It is included in the exact pass type and group combination.
- It is open and available on the planned day.
- It fits the route without sacrificing a higher-priority stop.
- The direct ticket is not already free or cheaper for that traveler.
Worked example: Pick 3 Theme Park
On September 16, 2026, the official attraction pages showed an adult online price of ₩46,900 for Lotte World, an SEA LIFE COEX online price from ₩28,000, and Gyeongbokgung admission at ₩3,000. That total is ₩77,900. Against a ₩70,000 Pick 3 Theme Park pass, the possible saving is only ₩7,900 before considering whether the exact three attractions satisfy the current group rules and whether the traveler really wants all three.
The same calculation can reverse for a child. The displayed child prices were ₩37,500 for Lotte World and from ₩25,000 for SEA LIFE COEX, while foreign visitors aged 18 or younger qualify for free palace admission under the current policy. That direct total is ₩62,500, below the ₩70,000 pass price.
This is why a family should not multiply one adult result by the number of travelers.
Worked example: 72 hours
For an adult, the same dated official pages showed ₩46,900 for Lotte World online, SEA LIFE COEX from ₩28,000, and N Seoul Tower at ₩29,000. The total is ₩103,900, which is ₩13,900 above the ₩90,000 pass.
For a child, the corresponding displayed prices were ₩37,500, ₩25,000, and ₩23,000, totaling ₩85,500. That is below the pass price before any other attraction is added.
These examples are worksheets, not permanent recommendations. Promotions expire, date-specific inventory changes, and the pass lineup can change. There is no universal safety margin. Choose one large enough that losing the least-certain paid stop still leaves the pass ahead.
Check whether the route fits the pass window
A spreadsheet can show a saving and still produce a poor Seoul itinerary. The 72- and 120-hour passes run on consecutive hours, not separate sightseeing days that can be paused.
Map each paid attraction before buying instead of treating the admission total as an itinerary. The three attractions in the worked example are separate visits with their own operating hours and entry steps. Adding more stops simply because they are included can turn the trip into a sequence of transfers and ticket counters.
Use this route audit:
- Put each attraction on the correct day and note its closed day and last entry.
- Add realistic travel, meal, and queue time.
- Mark any attraction that needs a separate reservation, time slot, or ticket exchange.
- Keep one optional stop that can be dropped without destroying the break-even result.
- Do not activate a timed pass on a light arrival evening unless the remaining hours still work.
For the worked examples, use the general Pick 3 process as the starting assumption: select the eligible attraction in the official app, present the app QR code at its ticket office, and receive an entry ticket. The official general guide does not provide one stable list of advance-reservation rules for Lotte World, SEA LIFE COEX, N Seoul Tower, and Gyeongbokgung. Open each attraction’s live entry in the official app before locking the day. If it asks for an advance reservation or a separate exchange step, complete that step first. The pass does not override a venue’s operating day, capacity, or reservation rule.
Choose mobile or physical card for a real travel need
The mobile and physical formats solve different problems.
| Format | Useful when | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile Pass | You want immediate app delivery and do not want a pickup stop | No built-in transit-card function; entry depends on the phone, app, account, and battery |
| Physical Card Pass | You prefer a physical pass and want a reloadable transit or prepaid-card function | Pickup is required, the transit balance is not preloaded, and loading transit value is separate from buying the attraction pass |
Using the physical card for transit does not start the attraction-pass clock. It also does not mean subway and bus rides are free: the transport function must be topped up separately. If your main question is unlimited public transport rather than attraction admission, compare the Seoul Climate Card and T-money instead.
The eSIM benefit needs an extra check. The official summary page visually assigns the five-day eSIM to the Mobile Pass, while the detailed official eSIM page says both Card and Mobile Pass holders can download it through the app. Because those official pages conflict, do not count an eSIM toward the physical card’s value until the checkout page for your exact option confirms it.
Even when eSIM is included, give it a monetary value only if your phone supports it and you have not already arranged mobile data. A benefit you will not use is worth zero in the break-even calculation.
Confirm activation, entry, and refund conditions
For Pick 3, the five-day period starts with the first use of an included attraction or service. Registration, eSIM use, and the reloadable transit or prepaid-card function do not start it. Count the first-use date as day one and place the other two selected benefits inside that five-day window.
For timed passes, the attraction clock normally starts when you first use a free-attraction benefit and then runs continuously. Each attraction can be used once. Issuing the 13-digit AREX code is the main exception because it activates the pass immediately. The official instructions recommend issuing it only just before use. AREX is also an included service for eligible Pick 3 selections, so issuing its code can be the first use that starts the five-day period.
Buying, receiving, registering, topping up, and activating are not interchangeable actions. Before completing the purchase, check the sequence for your format:
- Mobile Pass: confirm app access, the exact included benefits, phone compatibility, and the seller’s unused-pass refund route.
- Physical Card Pass: confirm the pickup location and hours, whether you need the card before an advance reservation, and which transit-card issuer is embedded.
- Attractions: confirm current participation, operating day, age rule, reservation or exchange step, and whether one entry is enough for your plan.
- AREX or another timed benefit: confirm whether issuing or redeeming it starts the pass earlier than your first attraction.
The official terms generally allow an unused pass to be refunded within 30 days through the applicable seller or designated route. Once a benefit has been used, a physical card has been registered in the app, its transit function has been used, or another listed exclusion applies, the pass can become nonrefundable. Read the seller’s terms before registering or loading anything if your plans are uncertain.
Final decision checklist
Buy a Discover Seoul Pass only after every answer below is yes:
- The attractions were already in the itinerary before you saw the pass.
- Their current direct prices exceed the pass by a useful margin.
- The exact product includes the intended attractions under its current group rules.
- The route works within five days or the consecutive 72- or 120-hour window.
- Closed days, reservations, entry exchanges, and age-based prices have been checked.
- The chosen mobile or physical format solves a real need.
- eSIM, transit, AREX, or coupon benefits have not been double-counted.
- You understand what action activates the pass and what makes it nonrefundable.
If one missed attraction would erase the saving, buy separate tickets and keep the trip flexible. If the itinerary still clears the pass price after the weakest stop is removed, the pass has a healthier margin.
For a first Seoul trip, use the three-day itinerary to group areas first. Then return to the pass calculation with a route you would actually follow.
